Plaistow Devon Trout

Plaistow Trout is Millstream grown in fast running water from the Exmoor hills.
Its qualities are firm muscular flesh and clean taste, guaranteed free of medication.

In the recently published booked appropriately entitled "The Devon Food Book" in the "Sea To Shore" section there is a special mention to Mr Dieter Wirtz on his "exceptional fish" and has also been referred to in the book as "the real McCoy".

Smoking:
We use mostly our own grown fish and try to source any other raw materials as local as possible to produce a selection of hot and cold smoked Trout.

The smoking process uses traditional German and local techniques, combined with up to date equipment and processing area to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and quality.
Hardwood, mostly oak, beach and alder is used to ensure a mouth-watering flavour.

Only Salt and Sugar, no artificial colourings or additives are used with any of our products.
Dieter, the Proprietor of the Smokery, is well known in the area for his culinary skills having run a successful Restaurant (Sherry's) and Delicatessen (Peppercorns').

To guarantee absolute freshness our products are vacuum packed and frozen immediately after processing. Fresh smoked products available by arrangement.

For fresh fish we net the ponds on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Cold Smoked Trout is our specialty, we believe better than Smoked Salmon...and it is local. Try it!
